A Salmon Farm in Scotland is currently under investigation by both the RSPCA and the Police after a video taken by Scottish Salmon Watch, which campaigns against Salmon Farms, emerged showing a fish at the farm covered in lice.
Scottish Salmon is seen as a highly prized food product, which has contributed to around 200 Salmon Farms existing today. The industry is believed to be worth around £1 billion.
The site, operated by Mowi, is at risk of losing its ‘RSPCA Assured’ label. It rigorously denies the accusations.
Speaking of the news, Andrea Jenkyns MP has said “The video is of course greatly concerning and it is right that the matter is being investigated by third parties, including the Police. Whilst there is no doubt that the vast majority of Salmon farmed in Scotland are kept in good conditions, it is vital that none suffer needlessly.”
