Marks and Spencers has been praised for the roll out of its Oakham Gold Chicken, which, according to the RSPCA, makes it the leading UK retailer for chicken welfare.
At present, the only other UK retailer to be signed up to the Better Chicken Commitment is Waitrose. This is despite nearly 7 in 10 UK adults believing that supermarkets should improve meat chicken welfare. Businesses such as Nandos and KFC have also signed up to the BCC.
Other British retailers are being urged to sign up to the BCC, as whilst the target date for the scheme is 2026, it will take a significant amount of work to achieve the objectives.
